Like a larger version of the Google Home Hub, the Nest Hub Max is big-screen smart display for your home, with a front-facing camera for video calls and the facility to check on your home remotely. In the end, the race was a close one, with Alexa pulling ahead of Google Assistant, thanks to strong performance in the smart home and communications arenas. But Google was certainly no slouch, and the fact remains that both are still strong choices, depending on which capabilities you prioritize. While both do pretty well in the case of general knowledge and extendability, for example, if you want the broadest possible support for music and podcast services, Alexa is probably the one to pick. If, on the other hand, you have a household with multiple people in it, each of whom want to get their own personal information via a smart speaker, Google Assistant might be a better choice. Both assistants obviously integrate with their company's respective music services, and in some cases offer the ability to link to third-party offerings as well.

One of Spotify’s best features is available to Free and Premium users. Depending on how much you pay for data, it might be a good idea to save your favorite tunes for offline listening. There are some key functional differences between Free Spotify and Spotify Premium, particularly with the mobile interface.

If you want the plug to stay on, you'll need to specify turning off the lights in that room or place the plug in a separate room altogether.
If you own an iPhone, iPad, or both, get the Apple HomePod mini
This soundbar is amazing, super easy to set up and the app is easy to use as well for additional settings. Watching movies is amazing, especially movies in Dolby Atmos. Another area where Google reigns is in multiple voice commands. Since they are so similar, it really comes down to personal preferences and compatibility with other devices in your home.
(We don’t recommend using the app while actively driving, though. Have your passenger do it.) They also make for easy integration with the navigation apps Google Maps and Waze. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the Echo Studio is that it can adapt to the acoustics of any room, straight out of the box, and will continue to adapt every time you use it. This Samsung system unites a wide variety of smart devices from different brands including smart thermostats, Wi-Fi router, lightbulbs, and security devices. Users with the smart system get a SmartThings Hub wall mount and can get full access to the smart devices connected to the hub through the SmartThings IOS or Android app. Alexa tends to have a broader range of third-party speakers to choose from, even if you can still find a decent number with Assistant or the option to flip between the two, as with Sonos gear.

Not only does it give solid time estimates in most cases, but it was also the only one that could handle public transit at all . Both assistants responded to my request to play upbeat '80s music and West Coast jazz by offering up stations that matched those descriptions. We tasked each of the digital assistants with a battery of 20 general-knowledge questions. While these assistants offer many of the same features, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. To reply on Google Assistant, the fam can say "Reply" or "Send a reply," followed by your message. Unfortunately, Alexa doesn't support replies to general announcements, but you can use Drop In to establish an audio connection between two Alexa speakers, which works similarly.
The Sonos Ray may be a stereo soundbar but it includes Dolby Digital decoding as well as tweeter waveguides which make the soundbar sound much bigger than it really is. The Beam can take advantage of Dolby TrueHD and Dolby Atmos audio formats too, and sounds even bigger. One of the major additions to the new Sonos Beam Gen 2 was Dolby Atmos support, but it didn't involve any hardware changes -- only software. Despite its lack of dedicated height speakers, the Beam is actually really good at simulating height effects -- better than anything else that's comparable at this price or below.
Many people think Bose audio systems cost too much for the quality they offer. There's one reason I call the Ray the "Sonos One soundbar" -- it's because they sound similar to each other. The speakers share a tight, slightly-closed sound which is great for rock music and pop. Yet, the Ray is still able to deliver excellent dialog reproduction, even if the Speech Enhancement feature is only subtle. Anybody with the link may do so, and it’s private unless someone gets the link. Collaborative playlists are great for when you and your roommates are throwing a party, or you’re planning a road trip with friends.

Even better, dock Siri serious points for not being able to do anything without a phone while the others can do all of that on a phone, plus some of it on home devices. When it comes to aesthetics, the two smart speakers differ in size, but are both covered with fabric and use LED lights to visually communicate. Set next to one another, it’s apparent that the new spherical shape of the Echo Dot makes it look larger than the Nest Mini — nearly double its height. Despite this, it’s a refreshing design change that we appreciate. It costs $229 (£219, $349), similar to the original price of the 10-inchLenovo Smart Display.
The audio quality improvements are noticeable and go a long way to elevate the Echo Dot with Clock into a nice-sounding compact speaker. If you’re looking for an affordable compact, yet ultrasmart personal assistant speaker that doubles as a capable alarm clock, the Echo Dot with Clock is a great choice. Apart from time and temperature, it can now also show additional weather details, scroll through song titles, and generally display more relevant info to your inquiry. The 2022 Echo Dot with Clock also has a temperature sensor under the case so you can use it to create Alexa routines based on the temperature in the room.
In recent years, many of the models they have released don’t have easy connectivity like an HDMI input port. The main problem with the Sonos complete set is its high price. This is not the best choice unless you have a large budget.
The microphone quality is pretty good, but it depends on your position relative to the speaker. An Alexa-infused TV may feel a bit frivolous, but being able to control your TV with only your voice, and know that it’ll play nice with the rest of your home, is a huge boon. It’s not like it’s just the fact that this thing works with Alexa that makes it good either. With 4K Ultra HD visuals, support for things like Dolby Vision and Dolby Digital Plus, you’re also going to be getting a truly beautiful image from your new TV too.
